HFD Firefighter Dies Battling Blaze In Kingwood

A Houston firefighter died from injuries he suffered while battling a 2-alarm fire in Kingwood this afternoon.

Houston Fire Department officials says the blaze broke out around 4 p.m. at a home in the 1400 block of Mistletow Lane at Redbud. A second alarm was pulled shortly before 4:30 p.m.. Firefighters went into defensive mode by 4:37 p.m.. The fire was finally under control around 5:20 p.m.. 

Firefighter, Daniel Groover, 46, of HFD Station 104 was with a crew on the second floor where he collapsed.

According to HFD, CPR was performed on Groover, who was transported in critical condition to Kingwood Medical Center, where he later died.

 Groover had been with the Houston Fire Department since 1993.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the HFD Arson Division.
