2016 Poll Good News For Perry White House Hopes

A new Fox News poll on the 2016 Presidential election is out, and supporters of Texas Governor Rick Perry will be happy with the results while supporters of Senator Ted Cruz won’t be as happy with the numbers.

According to the Fox News poll Governor Perry is tied with Jeb Bush as the GOP front runner with 12%. Pollster and Presidential historian Terry Madonna told KTRH it seems like Perry may have put his disastrous 2012 run behind him.

“Can you rule him out as a candidate? No. Can you rule him out as potential nominee? No,” Madonna said, adding that Perry would not be a favorite to win in the 2016 general election.

Why is Perry having success now as opposed to four years ago? Madonna says it’s because the Perry we see now looks like a different Perry than the one we saw in 2012.

“He’s much more adept and articulate. He’s got a greater command of the issues,” Madonna explained.

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul is second in this poll, with New Jersey's Chris Christie third. Senator Ted Cruz is tied with Paul Ryan and Marco Rubio for fourth with nine percent. Madonna says Cruz has his work cut out for him if he wants to make a big impact in 2016.

“He has to convince voters that he can win the nomination and the Presidency. He also has to convince them he won’t divide the Republican Party,” Madonna explained.

On the Democratic side, no surprise; Hillary Clinton is the runaway leader in the clubhouse. And Madonna says it’s easy to see why.

“Bill Clinton is the most popular politician in the country, bar none. And Hillary Clinton runs a close second,” Madonna stated.

Clinton leaves potential candidates like Vice President Joe Biden and Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren in the dust.

And if the election were to be held today, Clinton would beat all Republican challengers, with her closest competitor being Christie.
