For the first time in their history the Boy Scouts of America are changing their name.
The Texas-based organization announced the name change Tuesday at its annual meeting in Florida. The new name is more inclusive, “Scouting America.”
“In the next 100 years we want any youth in America to feel very, very welcome to come into our programs,” said Roger Krone, who took over last fall as President and CEO.
The organization started allowing gay youth in into its ranks in 2013. A ban on adult gay leaders was lifted four years later. And they started allowing girls to join in 2018.
