Fireworks go on sale TODAY!!

We are 10 days away from the Fourth of July - which means one thing: fireworks sales! Harris County Fire Marshal Laurie Christensen has the schedule. "Fireworks season begins today and will run through July 4th at midnight in the unincorporated areas of Harris County." Fire Marshall Christensen says you need to know your territory. "Within Harris County - we have 34 cities. Those municipalities don't allow fireworks to be sold and they don't allow fireworks to be shot off. Make sure fireworks are safe in your community."

The Fire Marshall reminds you to follow the directions on the box of your fireworks in order to avoid injuries. Christensen says the consequences of not being careful with fireworks include burns, the destruction of property and making your neighbor's lives miserable. She reminds you this is not a good time for anyone to go to the hospital. "Be very conscious of your neighbors when you shoot them off. If you can find a safe place away from neighborhoods, plan to go there. Be especially aware of Veterans in the area. Some of them find it difficult to be within listening distance of fireworks."

Bring in your pets. The noise may frighten them into running off. July 5th is the busiest day of the year for animal shelters because of all the lost and scared dogs and even some cats. Be safe. Be free. Enjoy the day!
