Kobe Bryant crash had Houston ties; Salisbury to KTRH: "Can't fathom this"

The tragedy of Kobe Bryant's death continues to be the topic of conversation around not just the sports world, but the world of entertainment as well. It also impacted us here in Houston.

The accident had a Houston tie, as former University of Houston baseball player John Altobelli was one of the nine people on board the helicopter when it crashed yesterday just outside Los Angeles. Altobelli's wife and daughter were also on the plane.

Altobelli played for Cougars in 1984-85 and served as an assistant coach in 1987. He was baseball coach at Orange County Community college.

Sean Salisbury, the former NFL quarterback and ESPN personality, hosts the morning show on our sister station, Sports Talk 790. He grew up in California, went to USC, and is a lifelong Lakers fan. He told Jimmy Barrett and Shara Fryer that he just can't fathom that this happened. Salisburgh joined the show from Miami, where the Super Bowl takes place this coming Sunday.
