Tropical Disturbance to Start 2019 Hurricane Season

Barry, is that you???

A tropical disturbance deep to our south in the Bay of Campeche heralds the beginning of hurricane season, which officially started yesterday.

The National Weather Service made note of the broad area of low pressure collecting Friday, and on Sunday morning the National Hurricane Center is considering sending an Air Force Reconnaissance aircraft over the region later today.

It could organize into a tropical depression this week.

If it moves onto land it will fizzle. If it continues churning over the warm water of the Gulf of Mexico, it could become the second named storm of the year: Barry.

KTRH News is keeping a close eye on development and will have updates as warranted. Whichever way the wind blows, the system is expected to bring rain to the Houston area midweek.
