New Migrant Caravan Quietly Heading North

The latest caravan of Central American migrants continues to make its way north through Mexico.  The group of about 1,800 left Honduras about a week ago with far less attention given to the much larger caravan last October.

“After these things happen a few times the media tends to lose interest, but nevertheless this is an ongoing problem,” says Ira Mehlman, spokesperson for the Federation for American Immigration Reform.

Several hundred from the previous caravan are still waiting to cross into the U.S.

“A lot of them are still in Tijuana because thanks to President Bill Clinton, there is a wall between Tijuana and San Diego,” says Mehlman.

“After years of sending millions of their own citizens north to the United States and imposing burdens on local communities in the United States and telling us we had to endure it, the Mexicans are now experiencing it themselves.”

Even without these large caravans, Mehlman says a steady stream of people will continue to cross the border illegally until Congress fixes the problem.
