City Council Discusses Implementing Prop B

(Houston, TX)  --  Houston City Council is trying to figure out how to fit pay raises for firefighters into the budget.  The council met Wednesday for the first time since a judge ruled that Proposition B will go into effect.

Voters approved Prop B last month, requiring the city to offer equal pay to firefighters and police officers.  Mayor Sylvester Turner opposed the measure, saying it would cost up to 100-million-dollars a year and result in layoffs.  A judge on Tuesday denied the city's request to stop Prop B pending the results of the city's lawsuit to overturn it.
