PODCAST: Mayor Warns Of City Layoffs, Response Delays, After Prop B Passes

(Houston, TX)  --  Mayor Sylvester Turner says the passage of Proposition B will lead to layoffs among city employees.  Prop B, which provides for pay parity between firefighters and police officers of similar rank, passed by a wide margin in Tuesday's election.

Turner said Wednesday that the city will have to figure out how to pay for the 100-million-dollar annual cost of the measure.  He said he's starting with a hiring freeze at the Fire Department, and a move from four fire shifts a day to three.
