Livingston Mayor Shoots Massive Gator

The mayor of Livingston is credited with killing a 12-foot "nuisance gator" that was on her ranch in Goodrich, Texas.

Mayor Judy B. Cochran says the 580-pound gator is responsible for killing one of their miniature horses several years ago.  She says she also took precautions to make sure the hunt was safe and ethical.

Polk County is one of only 12 counties in the state that allows gator hunting.  The season runs from September 10th to the 30th.

Gator hunting runs in the family.  In 2009, Cochran's then five-year old grandson shot a 12-foot, seven-inch gator, and earned an appearance on the "Today" show.
