Low Bridge: TxDOT May Raise Two Houston Spans

The Texas Department of Transportation is looking at plans to elevate two bridges along Interstate-10, which are repeatedly being hit by large trucks.

TxDOT says the Waco Street bridge has been hit eleven times in the past four years, and the Houston Avenue bridge has been hit 21 times.

Both bridges met state standards when they were built, but they’re currently more than two feet lower than the current state standard of 16-and-a-half feet.

There are no federal regulations of truck heights, so the bridges are often hit by trucks from out of state.
