Charges Dropped Against Former Officer Who Tased City Council Member

A former Prairie View police officer who used a Taser while arresting a city council member will not be going to trial.

A state judge has thrown out the case against Michael Kelley, who had been charged with official oppression.  He arrested then-Councilman Jonathan Miller in 2015 for interfering with police duties.

Miller has filed a federal suit against both officers who were there that night, the city of Prairie View, and the police department, claiming civil rights violations.  The suit also charges Kelley with assault and battery.
