Holiday traffic will be heavy today

If you haven’t made your Christmas trip yet, and are planning to do so today, the good news is you may have missed the worst of the traffic. The bad news is traffic isn’t going to be light by any stretch.

A record 107.3 million people are projected to be on the roads this Christmas season. Daniel Armbruster with AAA Texas says even though you missed the heaviest traffic day Wednesday, today won't be a walk in the park.

“Expect delays. Pack your patience. Eight million Texans are expected to drive for the year end travel forecast for the holidays. That’s the most ever on record,” Armbruster explained.

So is there a way to beat the traffic? Not really. But Armbruster says there are some ways to make it less frustrating today.

“The best time to leave is either right before morning rush hour, right after morning rush hour, or on Christmas Day itself,” Armbruster stated.

If you're driving, the average price for a gallon of gas is $2.11 this morning. Some places will be cheaper if you pay cash.

And if you're flying out of town, the top destination this year is Orlando, Florida, followed by Anaheim, Cancun, and Honolulu
