Texas to Get $51.1 million For Schools.

Texas is getting $51.1 million from the U.S. Department of Education to help the state's lowest-achieving schools.

Education Secretary Arne Duncan made the announcement in a news release on Thursday.

The funds which come from the department's School Improvement Grants program  are part of $535 million provided through the fiscal year 2011 budget and made available to states.

Duncan says the program helps give school leaders and teachers ``the means to accomplish the very difficult work of turning around some of our hardest to serve schools.''
