It's time many people start making New Year resolutions, but some experts suggest finding a theme that will better help you accomplish those goals.
Instead of losing weight, quitting smoking or stop stressing out, try coming up with an overall theme like "mindfulness" or "enjoyment" or "movement."
Dietician Molly Gee at Baylor College of Medicine says either way, set specific goals.
“A theme could be to get healthier or to exercise more, but the work really comes with being very specific in how you achieve it,” Gee tells KTRH News.
Gee says themes have layers which can apply to several life changing goals at once. Support from family and friends is important, and so is a routine, which these days can be tracked with a smartphone app.
“Self-monitoring, certainly being aware, and then taking a look at alternate activities instead of let's say having a cigarette,” she says.
