But some are still waiting for tax exempt status
With all the talk about the problems with Obamacare, the IRS’ targeting of Tea Party groups across the country has faded into the background. But there have been some new developments lately.
After a three-year fight True the Vote finally got their tax exempt status. While Catherine Engelbrecht's group won their battle, Robert Gonzalez of the Clear Lake Tea Party told KTRH other Texas groups are still having their issues.
“Alvin Tea Party and Pearland Tea Party have applied and are still waiting for their tax exempt status,” Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez said his group went for tax exempt status too. But they decided against a long, drawn out fight.
“We’re not giving up our personal information. We’re not playing games. We will pay our taxes. We’ll do things right,” Gonzalez explained.
Republican strategist Matt Mackowiak told KTRH the IRS is still getting away with this.
“These are Nixonian type tactics. The Obama Administration doesn’t care one iota. It’s very troubling,” Mackowiak stated. “You’ve had really nothing done at the administration level to investigate and see what happened. That’s what’s so outrageous about this.”
