British researchers say porn addicts are similar to drug addicts when it comes to the area of the brain affected.
Houston therapist Dr. Barbara Levinson says addiction is a chronic disease of the brain.
"An addiction is any mood altering activity that despite consequences you continue to do."
Dr. Levinson says this is important research that will help in therapy and drug treatment for porn addiction.
"You can see the same part of the brain that lights up in a cocaine user is the same part of the brain that lights up in a pornography user."
Researchers used MRI scans on 19 porn users who said their addiction was a problem.
"I've seen in my practice people who you would think 'and you did what? You knew that it wasn't allowed at work; you knew that you could get in trouble; you knew that the systems were being monitored and you did it anyway.'"
