Rumor has it Apple will debut its next iPhone September 10th. But Apple nemesis Samsung may beat 'em to the punch by announcing a new phone a week sooner.
High Tech Texan Michael Garfield says Apple isn't used to having competition, but Samsung can steal the iPhone's thunder.
"Samsung's rumored to come out with a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 -- oh by the way just about a week before the new iPhone is announced. So the competition is absolutely heating up and Apple really does need to look over their shoulder."
Garfield says the competition is good for consumers, because the new iPhone is expected to have at least one new feature -- a fingerprint scanner. It would theoretically enhance security over the current number input system.
"They're looking at potentially putting a fingerprint sensor on the front of the iPhone so that instead of typing your four digit pass code now you can just put your fingerprint on there. It's little things like that that may move the needle and get consumers to buy it."
Critics say Apple has not innovated since Steve Jobs' death and a simple refresh of the iPhone with slightly better hardware may not be enough to stay on top.
