It is a little known fact that today is Middle Child’s Day. Jan Brady and Malcolm in the Middle might have know that, but all the people who suffered through childhood getting neither the attention and adoration of the first born nor the spoiling and affection of the youngest born can find comfort in the knowledge that they are the subject of a special day of celebration.
So today they are going on strike.
“It’s more a symbolic strike than an actual strike,” says Bruce Hopman, founder of the self-created International Middle Child union.
“We grow up our whole lives yearning for this attention and then we are given a holiday that no one pays attention to,” Hopman explained to KTRH News.
To support the strike Hopman is asking that all middle children, or people who sympathize with middle children, or sometimes feel like middle children though they’re not, use #midkidstrike on social media to create global awareness and bring world attention to the strife suffered by middle children.
A talented humorist, Hopman has taken his fight for freedom, justice, and an occasional hug across multiple platforms, including his blog at smackdabtheblog.blogspot.com; @MidKidMusings on Twitter, and on Facebook at facebook.com/smackdabpage.
