Expert: Defense of media is nothing new
If you have been listening and watching lately you have probably noticed Conservative pundits doing something they don’t normally do. You’ve heard them defending the media.
Conservatives like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Mike Huckabee have been doing so ever since it was reported that James Rosen of Fox had been targeted by the government. Michael Harrison of Talkers Magazine told KTRH this is actually not a new phenomenon.
“I’ve seen right and left wing talk show hosts for years defending the First Amendment,” Harrison told KTRH. This is not a monopoly of the left or right. It’s just a story this week in the New York Times.
Harrison this is different for those on the right; that it's not what they usually do.
“You have political talk show hosts blasting what they call the mainstream media. That’s hyperbole. No one knows what the mainstream media is anyway,” Harrison explained.
And Harrison says defending the press is what Conservatives should have been doing all along.
“I’m very proud of any talk show host who defends the media from infringement of the First Amendment,” Harrison explained.
But Harrison says the only reason we are seeing this is because it was a reporter that was targeted for scrutiny.
