Medical professional charged with poisoning a former lover
A doctor on the staff at MD Anderson is accused of poisoning the coffee of a former lover. Dr. Ana Maria Gonzalez-Angulo has been charged with causing serious bodily injury to Dr. George Blumenschein, a colleague at MD Anderson.
Officials say the two were engaged in a casual sexual relationship. In January, Gonzalez-Angulo reportedly served her lover sweet-tasting coffee; Blumenschein usually takes his coffee black. Court documents say that four hours later, Dr. Blumenschein was taken to the emergency room with nervous system depression, cardiopulmonary complications and renal failure.
Officials at MD Anderson issued a statement saying Dr. Gonzalez-Angulo is currently on paid administrative leave.
