Analysts say the North American energy boom is bad news for OPEC. The U.S. is expected to take over as the world's top energy producer in the next few years.
Oil energy expert Phil Flynn says it's certainly good news for American drivers.
"The era of high gasoline prices is coming to an end."
Flynn says we're producing more because of technology advancements and we're using a lot less oil.
"One of the only industries in this country that's really getting by pretty much on its own without a lot of help from the government has been the energy industry; the new technologies that they've created is revolutionizing this country."
Flynn says this time next year gasoline prices will be lower because of less demand.
"Diesel's gonna be replaced by natural gas in a lot of places. These old gas guzzlers are gonna be replaced by electric and compressed natural gas."
