It was a traffic nightmare for commuters in southwest Houston Tuesday after the West Loop was closed all day.
Shortly before 6am Tuesday morning an 18-wheel tanker truck made a late exit while traveling northbound on the 610 West Loop. The truck struck the cement divider for the exit ramp to Highway 59. The truck flipped on its side blocking the entire exit ramp.
HFD says the tanker was carrying liquid methanol, which is highly combustible. That liquid caused the long delay in removing the tanker because the methanol had to be off-loaded before the truck could be moved.
