Those who support allowing guns on Texas college campuses say this could be their year. Proponents are encouraged a concealed carry bill has been passed by a senate committee.
Kurt Mueller of Students for Concealed Carry says those who worry about such a law do not have evidence on their side.
"There's been no incident where a student with a valid concealed carry permit has caused any sort of problem with a firearm while on campus."
Mueller says opponents want to believe college campuses are safe and adding legal guns would only threaten students.
"Sometimes violent crimes do happen and we think the people should have the means to protect themselves."
Mueller's group is imploring supporters to write and call members of the Texas senate.
"We're hopeful that we're going to get some sort of version of campus carry through the legislature this year because we feel the citizens of Texas need to be able to protect themselves."
The bill before the senate has passed the house and it's believed the governor will sign it if the senate approves.
