“Arm lift” surgery is up 4,000% since the year 2000. It’s one of the fastest growing types of plastic surgery today, a result of the dramatic increase in bariatric and other forms of weight-loss surgery.
“As people lose all the weight,” Dr. Chris Patronella tells KTRH, speaking of gastric bypass, gastric stapling, bariatric, lap band and all the surgical procedures now available to treat obesity, “they find that the arms become of their focal points of dissatisfaction. As the weight is lost, the skin becomes looser and sags, and the so called ‘bat-wing’ kind of complaint becomes more common.” Often times, says Dr. Patronella, it’s their number one concern.
He says the procedure often costs between $7,000 to $10,000.
The number of cosmetic surgeries performed in the US is up 3% over last year. There were 10 million procedures performed in the country.
Dr. Patronella says breast augmentation is still the most sought after surgical procedure in his practice, which is consistent with a report released Monday by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. The report says nose reshaping is number two, followed by eyelid surgery, liposuction and facelifts.
