They’re saying we need a solution by the end of the year. Immigration experts attended a conference at the Baker Institute for Public Policy on the Rice University campus yesterday.
Dr. Mark Jones says a list of recommendations from that conference will be drawn up soon, but the real work must be done by Congress.
“One thing we’ve learned over the last few years is our immigration system is broken,” says the political science fellow at the Institute, “and it needs to be fixed at the federal level, not the state.”
The experts in the field came from all over the country, sharing ideas on how to fix the problems and how to get the process moving forward.
Jones says the biggest stumbling block to progress is the demand for a pathway to citizenship for those already living here.
