Non-profit provides shotguns and training to women in high-crime areas
A non-profit that has been giving free shotguns away is now focusing on guns for women.
Armed Citizen Project has launched their Anti-Rape Kit initiative. Kyle Coplen with the group says the city has over 6,600 untested rape kits. Some of them date back as far as 30 years.
"We are pleased with the recent news that the Houston City Council recently approves funds to eliminate the backlog over the next 14 months at a cost of $4.4 million... At a cost of $400 per rape kit, our solution has the potential to be more cost effective and also prevent crimes."
Armed Citizen Project began in January as a non-profit that hands out free shotguns, ammunition, and training to people. Now the group is focusing on giving those guns to women in the hopes of deterring rape.
