Texas Association of Businesses among opponents
The Texas House of Representatives voted on the measure yesterday, approving it. Now, it moves on to the Senate.
Texas Association of Business President Bill Hammond is no fan. “I think,” Hammond says, “the Texas House is headed in the wrong direction and we are extremely disappointed.”
Hammond says the effort will continue in the Senate to stop the legislation which makes changes like reducing the number of tests Texas high school seniors have to pass to graduate from 15 to five.
If when they try to go beyond (high school),” Hammond says, “either to a community college or a four-year school, they simply won’t be prepared to do the work.”
Yesterday’s House vote was 97-50.
