New concussion guidelines for high school football

"If in doubt, sit it out." That's the slogan for new concussion guidelines for high school football players. Experts say it's common sense.

Sportstalk 790's Greg Koch took plenty of shots as a high school, college and NFL player.

"If there's a doubt in your mind whether this player has suffered a concussive event or not certainly sit that player out the rest of that game until he has a chance to see a doctor."

Ray Zepeda is Associate Athletic Director at Cy-Fair ISD.

"Any time that you're talking about a potential injury in that manner it's a serious situation and it's not an informal process."

The NFL has been laser-focused on the concussion issue and has just approved a rule preventing running backs from leading with the crown of their helmets. But critics say it'll ruin the game, because it's not natural or effective for a ball carrier to run straight up.
