Claims testimony at his trial warrants new sentencing
Former Texas Governor Mark White has signed a letter to the Harris County District Attorney calling for a resentencing for Duane Buck.
The letter is signed by over 100 people and claims that unfair testimony was allowed in his original trial that claimed he was a future danger because he was black. Governor White says the testimony was unconstitutional, “(the witness) testified that African-Americans were prone to commit violent crimes in the future – more than anyone else.”
Last week, attorneys for buck filed a petition asking for a new, fair sentencing hearing free of racial bias. “After that we can be satisfied that he has had a fair hearing, impartial, no prejudicial commentary,” says White. “Right now we can’t say that.”
