And the lawyer calls a powerful friend for help
This is a story about a man, his dog and a Texas county that says she can’t come to work with her person anymore. So, it’s not about who let the dogs out? It’s a story about who won’t let them in.
Mount Pleasant lawyer John Mark Cobern's been bringing his dachshund Belle to work for years.
“Belle would always be in my office. It seemed to help my divorce clients, so I just kept her coming up there. She enjoyed it,” Cobern told KTRH.
But Belle was banned from the office recently. Titus County Commissioner Thomas Hockaday says there was a good reason.
“Some county employees came to me and said we needed to do something about these dogs from running up and down the halls. It wasn’t one dog. It was three,” Hockaday said.
Cobern admits there were three dogs in the office at one time, but it was only for a few days. One was a puppy he bought for his son and the other was older and owned by a woman whose mother was going through cancer treatment.
So what does Cobern do now? He calls a buddy in Austin.
“Now that it’s been made a public issue, I did ask the Attorney General for an opinion and I will not bring Belle into the office until I get that opinion,” Cobern said.
Cobern's biggest problem with the whole thing? He says it’s that no one ever told him there was a problem.
