Fire threatened homes around Fern Hill and Birnam Wood
Firefighters battled a grass fire on 25 to 30 acres of land in north Harris County.
The Spring Volunteer Fire Department said the blaze started at Fern Hill and Birnam Wood and was approaching nearby homes. Just before 11 PM Friday officials said they had about 30 percent of the fire contained and it no longer posed a threat to homes.
The heavy smoke lasted until this morning. About 100 firefighters were on the scene, including some from the Texas Forest Service.
At this time no evacuations are in place for surrounding neighborhoods. No injuries have been reported.
