The Newest Thing in Dieting – Fasting

The diet fad swept England and it’s headed for us

It’s the biggest thing to hit the dieting world since…the last big thing to hit the dieting world.  It’s called “The Fast Diet.”  You eat normally, all you want and anything you want, for five days, then for two days you mostly fast, eating no more than 500 calories if you’re a woman or 600 calories if you’re a man, for each of the two days.

The book, by British medical-journalist Dr. Michael Mosley and columnist Mimi Spencer, came out in January in Great Britain, and has held the #1 spot on England’s Amazon since then.  “The Fast Diet” was released in the US last week and is already #2 on Amazon here.

Mosley, who is the BBC’s medical expert, was investigating diets when he started exploring fasting. Dr. Mosley says he lost weight, and he felt so much better.

Though the authors say they studied the science and found it compelling, there are critics.  A study of a similar diet conducted in America found overweight women were more likely have headaches and feel fatigued, though they did lose weight.
