Pentagon facing the majority of the sequester cuts
A military expert from Texas says the automatic budget cuts triggered last week will have a major impact on the way the military functions.
Retired U.S. Army Colonel Gordon Fowkes says the Pentagon will have to deal with half of all the spending reductions brought on by sequestration. “Cuts of this size,” Fowkes says, “will result in a fundamental and drastic change in the nature of the military establishment.”
Colonel Fowkes says he has seen similar transitions during his active career and he says cutting military training will be a big mistake. Fowkes says preparation is key to maintaining a strong defense. He thinks it’s possible the government will approach this the same way a corporation would, by throwing all the people who actually do the work out in the street.
