Rep. Culberson introduced the Space Leadership and Preservation Act

The fight is on to restore NASA to its former glory.

Texas Congressman John Culberson has introduced a bill to Congress called the Space Leadership and Preservation Act.  The bill makes fundamental changes in NASA's structure to allow science to lead the way instead of politics.

Congressman Culberson is joined by Texas Congressmen Gene Green and Pete Olson in steering the bill through committee before NASA's reauthorization later this year.

The legislation creates a six-year term for the NASA Administrator to provide a stable leadership structure to ensure science trumps politics.  The bill also changes then way NASA gets funding for projects and allows NASA's budget to extend out 10 years.  This will allow long term projects to receive continuous funding, instead of losing funding in a new budget.

Congressmen Culberson says the U.S. can not afford to surrender the high ground in space to emerging programs in countries like China.
