A state rep says he's got the support to pass it

Texas is known for its sales tax free weekend before school starts. Now, if a Plano republican gets his way, there'll be a sales tax free day to purchase guns.

Representative Jeff Leach says he wants to encourage gun ownership.

"Because we sincerely and strongly believe Texas should take the lead against the federal government's attempts to infringe on our 2nd Amendment rights."

And on what better day than Texas Independence Day?

"It makes Texas Independence Day, March 2nd, a tax free holiday, exempting individuals' purchase of firearms and hunting supplies in the state of Texas from sales taxes."

Representative Leach says he's confident he has the support to pass the bill.

Louisiana has a similar law on the books.
