Struck in leg, expected to recover
Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating a shooting that happened in the Simonton/Weston Lakes neighborhood in Fort Bend County Saturday afternoon.
Sheriff’s Office deputies received a call at about 4:15p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23rd describing a child shto by a stray bullet in the area.
Deputies learned that a grandfather and his two grandsons were walking in the 3900 block of Nails Road, which is located between Weston Lakes and Simonton. The grandfather told deputies they heard a pop sound and then he observed his 9-year-old grandson grab his right leg in pain.
The grandfather thought the grandson had twisted his leg, but when he took a closer look, the boy's grandfather discovered what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
The family took the boy to an emergency care room on Texas 99 (the Grand Parkway) and he was then transported by Fort Bend EMS to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston.
The boy underwent surgery Saturday and is expected to recover.
The case is under investigation.
