State Senator Kevin Eltife of Tyler is promoting the plan
A GOP state senator is promoting higher prices at the pumps.
State Senator Kevin Eltife from Tyler is promoting a plan to raise Texas state gas taxes to raise money to pay for rising highway maintenance and infrastructure costs.
The Senator from typically anti-tax east Texas says he is not concerned about the impact a tax hike will have on his re-election chances.
State Representative Debbie Riddle says raising gas taxes will only hurt hard working Texans. Riddle says there is enough money in the rainy day fund now, that some of the money could go towards highway improvements.
Gas prices have been on the rise for the last month and Riddle says now is not the time to make them any higher than they have to be.
