Doctors say new homes are making us sick
Doctors at National Jewish Health say recently constructed homes are triggering allergies because they're too energy efficient.
Doctors say energy efficient homes are trapping mold, bacteria and pet dander. But UT Health Science Center Dr. Dat Tran says the real problem is humidity.
"If it's well ventilated and the humidity of a home is low then it's not going to be a problem. The biggest problem is when the humidity rises."
Dr. Tran says ventilation is the key.
"The ventilation system has to be efficient to keep the humidity at a stable level."
Dr. Tran says another major problem is smoking. If you have a smoker in the house, he or she needs to quit if you wish avoid allergy problems.
