Convict got away during a cross country transfer

A nearly-weeklong manhunt for a prison escapee ends in Grapevine, Texas.  Officials say 42-year old Alberto Morales stabbed the detective who was taking him from Florida to Nevada on Monday.

Officials say Morales began “acting erratically” during a flight from Miami to Las Vegas, which was stopping in Houston.  As a result, the men missed their connecting flight.  The detectives rented a vehicle and continued on their way, making a pit stop in Grapevine to use the restroom.

Morales was located in a wooded area near Grapevine yesterday, following reports of a home burglary. Details of his death have not yet been released.
