Port Director estimates Galveston economy will suffer $700,000 loss
Carnival has canceled 14 future sailings on the Triumph that holds 3,000 passengers and 1,000 crew members. Officials said they will be repairing the ship while working on improving its reputation.

Galveston Port Director Michael Mierzwa said without Carnival, the island will lose more than $700,000 in revenue.

A Brazoria County woman has filed the first lawsuit in the wake of the crippled Carnival Triumph cruise ship that left thousands of passengers in miserable conditions for days. Cassie Terry sued Carnival Corporation Friday in federal court in Miami, seeking unspecified damages. She alleged that Carnival “failed to provide a seaworthy vessel and sanitary conditions,” according to court documents.
