Missouri City is taking part in the statewide program
Missouri City and Texas are hoping to recoup hundreds of thousands of dollars in unpaid fines and close thousands of cases clogging up the courts.
The statewide Warrant Roundup is running until March, 10th that allows people with outstanding warrants to pay their fines over the phone, in person, or by drop-off to avoid appearing in court.
Cathy Haney with the Missouri City Municipal Court says the program hopes to close hundreds of open cases for charges like failing to appear in court or unpaid parking tickets. This is the eighth year Missouri City has taken part in the Warrant Roundup. Last year, over 400 cases were closed thanks to the effort.
Haney says people can pay by credit card over the phone, you can drop off cash or money orders in the drop box in front of the court house, or you can appear and pay in person. The main perk of the program is it allows offenders to avoid jail time.
To pay an outstanding fine in Missouri City you can call 281-403-8669 or stop by the court house. Over $80,000 in fines was collected during the roundup last year.
