Shooting happened in front of witnesses and surveillance cameras
Saturday at 4:20 pm, Conroe Police were dispatched to Walmart at 1407 N. Loop 336 West to a reported suicide in progress.
Sgt. J. Smith arrived at the location within one minute and found a 35 year old man lying on the floor near the pharmacy department with what appeared to be a self inflicted gunshot wound to his chest.
Sgt. Smith performed CPR in attempt to save the victim until paramedics arrived. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses and surveillance cameras indicate the victim entered the pharmacy department and immediately sat down on a bench in the waiting area. Shortly thereafter, he removed a semi-automatic handgun from his waistband and shot himself.
There was no time for anyone to intervene before the victim shot himself. The victim's wife, who is an employee at Walmart, was on scene and attempted to help him.
Witness information revealed the couple had been having marital problems.
The Walmart store was evacuated for the police investigation. There were no other injuries to store employees or patrons.
The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of his family and three children.
