Looking to fill class of 150-200

If you ever thought about becoming a Houston firefighter now is your chance.  HFD is hosting an informational open house Saturday as it tries to fill this year's class.

However, Captain Ruy Lozano says competition is tough.

“We've gotten as many as 2,000 applicants for one job posting,” Lozano tells KTRH News.  “We're looking at hiring anywhere from150-200, if you have two years military experience or 60 college credits, we're currently hiring.”

Lozano says the open house is split into three meetings and will address just the basics.

“We'll cover what you need to become a Houston firefighter, prerequisites, and also the whole hiring process in order to ease the tensions about what it takes to become a firefighter,” he says.

Saturday's open house will be held at HFD's training academy on Braniff St.  Applicants can apply online or call (832) 394-6600.
