Included simulated ammunition and helicopters
Many residents in Houston and Galveston have been startled this week by gun fire and low flying helicopters.
The training exercises are called Realistic Urban Training Exercises. They include transport aircraft and simulated ammunition, in city settings to train soldiers in urban warfare.
Lt. Col. Dave Connolly is Director of Public Affairs for the U.S. Army Special Operations Command and says the exercises are needed because they don't have the urban structures on-base.
Earlier this week many residents in southwest Houston were startled by gun fire and low flying helicopters near Carnegie Vanguard High School. Galveston was the site of a training exercise Wednesday at an abandoned parking garage that is set for demolition. Other urban training exercises have taken place across the country.
