Dozens Dead in North African Standoff
Three US citizens are among the dead following a hostage standoff at a natural gas complex in Algeria. Officials identified 57-year old Victor Lynn Lovelady of Nederland among the fatalities. His daughter Erin talked about her dad's death:
"We talked about vacation this summer, 'cause we had planned going on a trip with our family. That's why he did this; he wanted us to have all the good things and he wanted to spend time with my mom."
In all, four Texans were taken hostage. Frederick Buttaccio from Katy was also killed. No word on when the remains will be returned to the US.
The four-day standoff ended Saturday after Algerian troops stormed the complex. Algeria says 38 hostages of all nationalities and 29 militants died in the standoff. Seven Americans made it out safely. Five foreign workers remain unaccounted for.
