Keep your home lit and stay on your neighbors good side
In the wake of Houston topping the list of cities with the most burglaries, home security is on people's minds.
Lewis Long with the home security company ADT says there are simple steps people can take to make their home safer and more secure. Long recommends making sure all your windows have locks, make sure your home is well lit, foster good relations with neighbors, and have hedges under windows.
ADT provides home monitoring and security systems like alarms, motion detectors, and flood lights. In Houston, there were over 27,000 home burglaries in 2011. That is down from over 29,000 in 2009.
