One approach is to arm janitors
A tiny Ohio school has a novel approach to security: arm the janitors! But the idea may not be very popular anywhere else.
Custodians have volunteered to carry at a school near Toledo. But Houston custodians’ union president Wretha Thomas says no way.
"I wouldn't support it; that they be allowed to carry guns to protect (themselves)."
Thomas says if something goes wrong, a janitor wouldn't get the benefit of the doubt. Stephanie Migel at Cy-Fair ISD says it's not in their future.
"We believe that the security is best provided by our professionally trained police officers."
Supporters argue no one knows the schools better than janitors and they'll be trained to use weapons.
