Group seeks volunteers for reality television mission.
A Dutch-based group is seeking volunteers for a no-return trip to Mars, and trying to pay for its idea to settle the Red Planet through a reality television show.
Mars One is hoping to send livable pods to Mars beginning in 2016, with the first set of humans scheduled to arrive in 2023.
"I'd want to come back to tell the story, I'd want to come back to help other people go," Lee tells KTRH News. "A one-way trip has sort of a suicidal element to it that I find difficult to subscribe to."
Lee says the biggest hurdle may be trying to fund the project through a reality show.
"They're doing everything except explaining where the trillions of dollars that's going to pay for this is coming from," says Cowing. "I've yet to hear anything from them that's beyond a thousand dollars here, and a thousand dollars there."
However, even Cowing admits he might consider volunteering if the project were to ever take off.
