Houston's average is up 6¢ since last week
For the past seven years gas prices have typically gone up following the holidays. This year is no exception.
AAA Texas says so far the average price for gas has risen since the new year. The current average for Houston is $3.20/gallon.
Doug Shupe with AAA Texas says they do expect gas prices to be lower this year than in 2012. Prices will rise in the spring as we switch to the summer blend then drop over the summer, then rise again as the hurricane season starts.
The biggest factor for gas prices this year will be the U.S. economy. If the economy improves gas prices are likely to rise, if the economy worsens we will probably see gas prices drop.
The stagnation of the U.S. economy has kept drivers off of the roadways following the busy holiday travel season. Lower demand is one of the reasons for the expected lower prices for 2013.
